The Edith Nelson Scholarship has been made available by the Altrusa Club of Richmond, Virginia in honor of Edith W. Nelson, an Altrusan whose personal and professional contributions made her an outstanding woman in our community and Nation. It was established in 1978 to celebrate Edith's 50 years of membership. Edith was club president 1936-38 and served in many other capacities as committee chair or officer. She was governor of District Two 1944-46 and International President 1957-59. Edith was from a small rural community; she grew with the experiences of life and business, was astonished at her success; she affirmed that "Altrusa is a builder of women." Edith was a charming, caring person whose dedication to the principles of Altrusa inspired members of all ages. |
